As part of my job as a sports reporter for the Crowsnest Pass Promoter and Pincher Creek Echo, I had the opportunity to cover the Canadian Series moguls competition at Castle Mountain Resort. As a foot passenger, the Castle Mountain Resort staff were kind enough to let me ride the Green Chair to the top where I then walked the short distance to the mogul site. Instead of getting substandard photographs from the bottom looking up, I hiked partway up the course to get the full experience of racers coming off the jumps. (Click image to enlarge photograph)
Sitting on a bluff overlooking the Crowsnest Pass for nearly an hour and a half, I was rocketed by winds reaching at least 100 kilometers an hour. As a reporter with the Pincher Creek Echo and the Crowsnest Pass Promoter, I was invited to Castle Mountain Resort’s annual media day where they allowed all special guests to ride the snow cat up to the top of Haig Ridge.
Although I wasn’t able to ski down, as I’m intermediate at best, I took the time to photograph the incredible view over the valley.
I set out with my camera and cold weather gear for an afternoon taking photographs in the Crowsnest Pass and found myself along the Old Frank Road, which used to be the old highway before Highway 3. With my long lens attached, I was able to snap a great photograph of Crowsnest Mountain and its Seven Sisters.
