When traveling to Bath Spa, the tiny village of Lacock is a must see. The buildings date back to the 12th century, mere decades after the conquest of England by William the Conquerer. Pictured above, an elderly fellow leaves his 13th century abode. Enjoy more of my travel photography (photos) from Lacock Village.
Beautiful Bath Abbey is one of the most peaceful and quiet cathedrals in England and was originally founded in the 7th century A.D. Just as there are many cathedrals packed to the rafters, Bath Abbey was quiet and gave me the opportunity of contemplate the history of the cloisters around me. When I first stepped into the City of Bath Spa, seeing the Abbey for the first time was one of the most special moments during my time in the historic city.
Much as Avebury Stone Circle is 1,000 years older than Stonehenge and up to 16 times larger, the Neolithic site does not draw the same amoun of crowds as its more famous cousin and for that fact, is must see for any travelers.
Much as the exterior of Bath Abbey is stunnng, the interior lives and breathes with the lives of past generations and their glorious achievements. If traveing, take a moment of your hectic schedule to step inside and remember those who came before us.
Much as Stonehenge is a mystical place, it has to be one of the busiest historical landmarks in Great Britain. While it can’t be missed, it’s enjoyable to take a step or two back and take a picture of the crowds photographing this Neolithic site. Enjoy my Stonehenge travel photography (travel photos).
Before leaving for the United Kingdom, I was terrified. Questions rattled through my mind like the lumbering trains I’d be travelling on through Britain. Would I catch my plane? Would I get on the right train? Would I end up on the wrong plane, heading for Saskatchewan?
Luckily, none of those things happened. I have traveled with my family before but my trip to the United Kingdom would be my first outside Canada on my own. For both avid travellers and those newly bitten by the travel bug, it is no secret. Travelling alone can cause some jitters.
My adventure began earlier than expected when our plane landed for a stopover in Glasgow Scotland. Sitting around a Scottish airport listening to a funny security guard was a great way to start my trip across Great Britain.
When I arrived in England, I was so worried. I stood in the wrong line at customs. Then the arrivals area caused me untold difficulty. It wasn’t boding well for my trip. Finally, I had to face my first nemesis. The train boards.
After standing around and gawking at the train boards, I found my first platform. A special thank you must go out to a helpful English lady who assisted me by telling me the correct train and carriage as well.
In addition, thank you to the conductor who told me that the station I was going to get off at was not the safest. This would probably be my only blog entry if I went there.
