The street, lovingly referred to as the Shambles, has been a part of the city of York since the coming of William the Conquerer in 1066. Well known for its overhanging medieval shops, it almost looks like the street is going to cave in on itself. Though the Shambles is no longer a butchers district as it once was, travelers and residents alike can grab a lovely pork pie on their way down this historic street.
